Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQs)
Where does Shellharbour play?
Shellharbour Sharks JRLC are part of Group 7 South Coast Rugby League. We play against teams located up and down the coast.

For ages 6-12, teams range from Warilla in the north to Milton/Ulladulla in the south. Generally, the Draw is 1 home game, 1 away on alternate weeks and you only travel to other Clubs once. This is subject to change however.

Games are played on SATURDAYS.

For ages 13+ Group 7 & Illawarra play together in a Merged competition so travel up past North Wollongong more regularly than the younger kids.

The Draw is released by Group 7 weekly until Round 5 when regrading occurs. After this, a full season Draw is released by Group 7. We post the Draw to Facebook as we receive it, please bear in mind we have to wait for a finalised draw from Group 7 before we can advise of game times and locations.

Game times are published week to week so we cannot advise when a game is likely to be - early kick offs are 8am and late games 2:30pm.
Where is the home ground for the Shellharbour Sharks?
Our main precinct is at Ron Costello oval. You can enter via the bottom of Mary Street or Wentworth Street, Shellharbour. This is where the canteen and gear sheds are, as well as our mini field (Ben Fretus oval).
See the training page for training locations.
How many kids play at the Sharks?
In 2024, we had over 470 kids registered with Shellharbour Sharks JRLC – our most yet! We had 36 teams playing in the Group 7 competition and anticipate similar numbers for 2025.

Our committee works very hard to get our kids on the field and having fun each week. Many hands make light work, and we are always keen to see new faces helping out in any way they can. If you can spare any time before or after your child's game, or are keen to help out with the committee, please get in touch!
How do I volunteer to help with my child's team?
Every Team should have a Team Manager, Coach and a LeagueSafe Representative at a minimum. To become;
-
a Team Manager, simply register as a Volunteer online
-
a Coach, register online and then complete your accredited training courses (online & face-to-face)
-
a LeagueSafe Rep, register as a Volunteer then complete the easy online course
-
A canteen helper or Committee member, simply register as Volunteer online!
If you are interested in being a First Aid Officer, there are also courses available for this which the Club pays for. We do however need you to be available to assist with games that may not be your own child’s game.

They attend our regular meetings at Anna Watson Pavilion, Ron Costello Oval Shellharbour and have their say in Club’s decisions and hear about what’s happening. You do not need to take on an Executive role, or have tasks assigned to you unless you want to. All new members are welcomed!
How do I find out about Representative opportunities for my child?
We will advise of any opportunities via Facebook or by directly speaking with you and/or your Coach.
Do you offer footy for under 5 year olds?
We do. This is called Little League Stars and is for 3-5 year olds. This is a non-contact skills-based introduction to football run by volunteers on Friday afternoons at Ben Fretus oval. It’s a great way for the younger kids to get some footy exposure and experience and hopefully leads them into our under 6s. This program will start in late May 2025 and registration will open before then. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for information.
What is the Tag program for under 6s for/about?
In 2022, NSWRL introduced a new compulsory ‘Tackle Ready’ program across the State modelled off previous programs conducted in Queensland.
It means ALL under 6 players play TAG ONLY for the season, and all u7s do also for the first six weeks of the season. Tag belts are provided for the kids. More information on the Player Development Framework can be found online here.
